Dear Hal,
I am depressed. Why? Because you are leaving the LVPhilharmonic. You have done fantastic work with the orchestra. In the last three years that I have listened to your group, I do not miss my favorite Cleveland Orchestra. The sound and precision of the orchestra does equal that of any more established Symphony Orchestra in the country.
I am very happy that I met you three years ago. We have so much in common. We both play trumpet, studied with the same teacher, conducted musical groups and we both come from Ohio. Do not let your talent go dormant. I hope you will go to a more established orchestra.
Whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck.
Sincerely,
Richard Kolda

Hal, your website is very professional as one would expect from your career. We go back a few years since we became friends at Ashland College.....some thirty-five years ago. Retirement does not fit you Hal! Till we meet again....the best to you and Betsy.

You and I go back more years than I care to remember. Back then, we were young and thought we could do anything. And, you know what? We can do anything, only today we can do anything a little better than we used to.
But truly, you have graced my life as a friend of over 40 years and a fellow musician, and you have made your corner of this poor beleaguered world a more beautiful place just because you were there. You had the vision, the ability, and the drive to make it so.
Retired? You'll never be "retired" any more than I will. There's too much life to be lived yet.

Hal,
This is a fitting tribute to the man who brought culture to a desert wasteland. Who would have thought Beethoven, Brahms, and Mahler would have been able to compete with non-stop T&A. Thanks for making this oasis a little more palatable.

Dear Hal:
Great Web Site! Congratulations on a brilliant career, a beautiful family and staying grounded. You should be very proud and pleased with your accomplishments. There are few people in the world who are able to know at a young age what they want their career to be. You started playing the trumpet with David Dexter and Milburn Schuler at special school functions. Little did we know in the early days [1951!] where your path would take you. It is obvious you knew your musical talent was the right career path to take. I do know that the nice, polite, hard working and considerate person I knew years ago has not changed, and that`s the greatest compliment I could pay to such a great guy.
Sincerely Tom Umina

Great to have the opportunity to leave a message on YOUR guestbook!
Enjoyed looking round your site - long may it continue and grow.
And perhaps one day we can put a picture of the two of us working together on both our websites?!
All the best,

Hello Hal,
Nice site. I especially like the picture on the "home" page with you holding the score to Brahm's 4th. That piece was the first major work I ever had the privilege to perform from the orchestral rep under your baton. Since then, I've been playing in an orchestra horn section somewhere for 22 years now, and I blame it all on Brahms and Hal Weller. Thanks for giving a kid a shot in the FSO way back then.. still some of my fondest musical memories are of those days.

Hey Hal,
To a great conductor...
Great site! You've finally "made it."
Many congrats on all your success in Las Vegas and in providing such a wonderful orchestra for the residents (word gets around in this biz). I'll probably miss the July 4th concert as I'm working on two CDs and and some film cues; the deadlines are quickly approaching...but many, many thanks for playing my little "ditty." I hope you, the orchestra, and the audience enjoys it and you all have a wonderful holiday.
Hope to see you soon.
Tony
